Client Project Mock Ups

It's a start...
working on a few painting ideas
this week for a client painting.

The client showed me a photo of Lisa Lala's painting of birds...
I love her bird paintings.

This was kinda my inspiration piece, though more realistic, certainly not to copy...
more on the impressionistic side...
and its for a garden room.

So I got started playing with a few ideas.  Of course I love layering papers
under my paintings...sometimes they show through, sometimes not...
it's fun knowing they're there though.

Then a scraped a little gesso over top of the papers to soften them a bit.

I like the texture created with molding paste, paper and gesso.

I painted out part of my first attempt at this one, purple seemed a good under color
and would hide the bright colors I started with underneath.

I like the softer color palette rather than the brightness of my first attempt.
I used Queen Anne's Lace flowers here.

I liked this meadow full of poppies scene below...
though added in the idea of a fence detail as my client mentioned she
would like to see garden elements in the scene.

I especially love the sheet music paper peeking through.

I also took a little time to work out a poppies study in my art journal
to brush up on my flower painting.

This third idea is more of a garden scene, with a planted urn, stair steps and a garden path.

The next day I decided to play a little more with a few abstracty ideas.
These I did on watercolor paper and
was just in it to have fun and see what I'd come up with.

Again I layered a few papers underneath and started playing with paint.

You may have noticed birds are the carry through theme on all the mock ups.
We haven't decided on what the actual birds will be...
just getting ideas out onto a surface for now...
birds play a big part in each painting.

Can I just say... I love the script peeking through!

Here's a short video on tissue paper in these little paintings.

So this is my first round to help me find out what my client
would like to see hanging in her garden room.

Its so important to do sketches, thumbnails, painted renderings
to focus in and clarify what someone has on their mind...both client and artist.
Once we find the right mix the fun begins!

I can't wait to get started on this large painting 60"x48"
and share it with you when it's complete and hanging in the garden room.

Thanks for stopping by :)
