Stencil Love...

Have I mentioned...

I love stencils

...and how much stenciling adds to my painted furniture
and sometimes inspires the design all together!

Well if I haven't... let me take a moment now and share my thoughts on stenciling.  Like I said, they inspire me!  Sometimes seeing a great stencil design will pique my imagination and I'll pair it with a piece of uninteresting furniture and...

viola / paint magic!

One of my favorite places to shop for stencils...

Not only do they have an amazing selection of stencils and decorative painting products (including the beloved Chalk Paint)...the studio also has wonderful workshops on how to use them all.  Royal Designs website is fun to cruise around and very informative, including tutorials on how to stencil and more.

Even better...
Melanie Royals is a local girl in San Diego!  Self taught artist, entrepreneur and the founder of Royal Design Studio...she is amazing + a very nice person.
Check out her website(s) and get inspired!

Meanwhile...back at
While I've used many Royal Design stencils over the years
on many walls in clients homes...
I'm now enjoying them on a smaller scale and using them to enhance and
even make a piece of Cerro Home furniture sing out!

A few examples please...

I used Springtime in Paris for this little writing desk...

Scrollallover on several pieces...I love this stencil!

I've used on several pieces of furniture + the floor at
Leaping Lotus (as seen above).

Villa Classic on chair seats

 Dresser top using Villa Classic

Once these lovely furniture pieces are dolled up + transformed with Chalk Paint and Stencils...
they make their way into my Cerro Home
shop at Leaping Lotus
and wait for their new home.

I think you can see how much I enjoy stencils and what they add to a project...
and you're always invited to visit both Royal Design Studio and
Cerro Home at Leaping Lotus.

Enjoy!

    1. Thank you Melanie...the furniture keeps me busy, delightfully painting away! Even more so now that I have Chalk Paint and don't have to get bogged down with all the technical prep work...I just dive in and start playing with paint...Love it! And as you can see, your stencils add so much...thank you!

  3. Hi Denise - found you via Melanie's Pinterest board. Glad to know you through your blog. I am a decorative artist on Long Island. I have done a lot of furniture for clients with stencils - doing one today as a matter of fact - with Melanie's Florentine Corner on the top pf an oval table which my client bought from me (plain, unadorned old Ethan Allen end tables).

I love Melanie's stencils and Modellos. I am gearing up to do more painted furniture and selling it (hopefully to lessen the amount of time I am on a scaffold, now that I am older.)

Hopefully - visit my blog and follow. I am your newest follower! Love your blog BTW!

Me too...don't want to be on scaffolding anymore...and have come full circle to my first love of painting furniture. Melanie's stencil make it that much more fun and interesting.

  5. So beautiful, and very inspiring -- but I think you mean "voila," not "viola."
