Journaling Through Art...
I think I'm finally going to enjoy journaling!
I've always been resistant to sitting down and journaling...it's just not my thing.
Many I know do it, love it, even swear by it. I guess when I have free time to write
I would rather be doing some kind of art.
I mentioned in my blog last week I'd be taking an online art class this week.
Its about finding your own light through your art work.
My light came like a light bulb being turned on...I could make journaling part of my art!
First let me mention the workshop is with Laly Mille and I'm really enjoying it.
I love her artwork and her process and hope to learn much from her.
Today I started my art journal with the above painted canvas
that had been a sample painting for a client...
and I just started to write over top of it. Just got my thoughts out about where I wanted to
go with this piece and what it meant to me.
I then rustled through my stacks of clippings and papers and pulled out a selection
of colors, textures and subjects I found pleasing together.
Next step, supplies.
I selected paints, inks and liquid arcylics that
worked with the color story I had in mind.
I laid out clippings and papers over the written canvas and played around with
placement until I found a composition I liked. All the while thinking about
the words underneath and the intention I had set.
I used Golden matte medium to glue the clippings down...
then went back in with paint, pastels, inks and added a little more color
to softened up the edges.
I think I'll probably come into my studio in the morning and want to add a little more...
it's not quite done.
But when I look at it I remember the thoughts I was writing underneath it all,
and I'm happy to discover a new way to journal...
one that suites me quite well.
Fantastic... your on a path to success. expressing yourself beautifully, and showing others how to find that treasure within themselves. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThank yo so much Carole...for me it's really a fun way to get my thoughts down (and then cover them up so no one can see)! It really is fun and keeps me thinking and creating!
