Modern Quilting...
Finding design inspirations in unexpected places.
I was gifted this book of modern quilts from my daughter in law Lucinda Walker a few years ago, and was amazed by the contemporary quilts being handmade by quilters in the Modern Quilt Guild. Lucinda herself is a member of the guild and has had two of her quilts accepted into the guilds Quilt Con exhibitions over the past few years, along with an award for her hand stitching. That quilt (pictured above) made its way to France on invitation from yet another textile show. Definitely not the quilts of days gone by...more in line with what I've been learning and soaking up in the painting world...design, value and color.
Going through the pages has inspired me and I now keep this copy on my art table to look through when I'm feeling stuck and need a little design & color spark. Not to mention the principles that I'm learning in the Art2Life Program really do cross lines into all area of art...painting, photography, sculpting, drawing...quilting!
Here are a few of the many, many quilts I've found online that I like...check out more on the Modern Quilt Guilds Instagram
I think you'll see what I'm talking about.
Enjoy the inspirations you find...
wherever they may be.
