Faux Enchaustic

This weeks inspiration in my studio
came from my anticipation of an online class I'm starting next week from

Laly is all about finding your inner light through painting.

I took some time out to warm up, play
and get my supplies together to start the workshop.

In the meanwhile, it inspired me to create six new pieces of mixed media collage.
This little pink hummingbird is one of them.

Part of the class will be about encaustic layering of wax over art work.
While looking around online, I came across another way to replicate encaustic...
kinda faux encaustic if you will.

Here's a little video on how I did it...

I really enjoyed my studio time this week...
cutting out, layering, painting and playing with this new technique.
It's great if you don't want to delve into the hot wax encaustic technique
or if you're in the flow of a piece and just don't want to get all the
encaustic equipment out.

Both techniques have very nice results.

All six of my new pieces can be found in my Etsy shop

I was on such an unintended bird theme...it just happened!

I found this driftwood and the stone with the attached seaweed
on a beach walk last Sunday...they fit perfectly together.

Thank you for peeking in.

If you have a chance to look at Laly's page
you may be inspired to sign up for her class...
or create a few art pieces of your own from the inside out.
