The end...
to the last 8 years of being in the vintage business...
CerroHome & TeardropHankys.
I loved it, loved it, loved it...until I didn't love it anymore.
Don't get me wrong, I still love many aspects of it. My love of things with a past, treasure hunting for those pieces of history and now giving them a new life through my art...
that has always been and will continue to be a part of me.
Though the days of searching for old pieces of furniture and vintage decor, bringing them back to my workshop, repairing and painting, put them back in the van and take them to a shop or flea market,
merchandising them in hopes that someone will love it as much as I did recreating it
and take it home with them...I'm glad to let that go.
I still love painting furniture, only now I just do custom pieces for clients.
Looking back through all the photos I've taken of my work, shops and markets...
its a great walk down memory lane of the last 8 vintage years.
My first little shop space in 2011 at the Leaping Lotus in Solana Beach
was only 3'x5"... so tiny and I kept every inch filled up.
From that little 3x5 I moved into a 8x11, and then 8x22.
Then went into two more shops...The Urban Barn In Escondido,
and Antiques on Cedros in Solana Beach...I had my hands full keeping 3 shops full.
Next thought, slow down a little...get out of shops and just do vintage markets.
I must say I did have fun with this and have so many friends I've made
through doing markets...the vintage women are so warm, giving
and just plain fun to be around!
One market I did had fires looming in the background...sales were not so great that day.
Most of all...I'm so glad not to be schlepping furniture and large items back and forth
into and out of storage. At the end of this month I will be completely out of my
storage rental...
YIPEEEEEEE!
I'll be selling the last of my vintage items
(and showing a few of my assemblage art pieces from vintage finds)
at my favorite Vintage Market this Sunday in Vista...at VERY reasonable prices.
If you're around please come by and say hello, and goodbye to my vintage past.
This is a really fun market with so many great vendors. I'll be in space #2...though if I'm not in my space I may be out shopping for future assemblage treasures.
Denise, You are the Queen of expert taste and resurrection of beauty, and you always will be! Your unbridled creativity is astounding. I can't wait to see what your next love will be, as we know your hands will not long be idle!! Thanks for all the inspiration and example of what a true 'can do' attitude manifests.
ReplyDeleteCarole....I think I need you following me around to remind me of what can be! Your words always lift me up and consistently seem to come at the perfect time. Thank you, thank you dear friend...for all your inspiration and encouragement!
DeleteWell, no one worked harder at this endeavor than you, that’s for sure! And your shops or booths were always merchandised so well-they always looked like “Denise’s work”—which is great to have such an identity—and I know you’ll find the coolest ‘next thing’ to do! ❤️❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteThank you sissy...for the kindest words...of course you will have the inside scoop on all my creative endeavors. And no...no one will get the Moselle but you! ❣️
DeleteOh, and if you have ANY MOSELLE, you better be saving it for me!!!!🍴
