Working With A Client

My process...
while working with a client on a commission piece of art.

When working on a commission piece of art (whether it be a painting, a mural, faux finish
or any other decorative design) its so important to work out the detail on paper with your client
until you feel confident that you're both on the same page of what the project will turn out to be.

I posted about this a few weeks ago in my Client Project Mock Ups HERE.
The mock ups in that post were the first round I did for the same client in this post,
with the finished painting revealed above.

My first set of mock ups I did myself with paint and canvas.
I like going this route as it gives me a chance to get a feel for the paint
and the process I'm headed into.

Once my client and I discussed the mock ups and the elements she'd like to see in the painting,
fine tuning and another mock up was done... this time on my iPad with the ArtRage app.

We were going for a colorful, abstract though recognizable, fun and whimsical
garden theme for her garden room.

Elements she wanted to include...

hydrangea and lavender fields...

birds on a wire and a birdhouse...

Collage sheet music behind the birds
and my favorite nonsensical teal circles.

I got to put it all together on a 60" x 48" canvas.
Have I mentione...I LOVE WORKING BIG!

I often start with a bright, colorful, complimentary under painting.
Especially with all the cool blues and lavenders, the orange under painting gives it warmth
and I enjoy the orange peeking through here and there on the finished piece.

Note orange peeking through below around trees and bird wires.

It hung perfectly on my studio wall,
with lots of room to stand back and view it from a distance.

So here it is all ready for its final top coat.
I added in a few discreet larger circles...
just to follow through with repeating the circles in the painting...
including the birdhouse circles.

I balanced out my colors a bit by adding the orange from the birds into the hydrangea
to make them a little more lively and look like they belonged to the rest of the painting.
The birdhouse got a patina copper roof and one little bird is a blue bird of happiness.

I had so much fun doing this piece, especially with a client who isn't afraid of color.
I want more of those please...just puttin' it out there!

 See you next time...
ENJOY
