The Wet Cyanotyoe Process

Cyanotype
A photographic printing process that produces a cyan blue print. Engineers used the process well into the 20th century as a simple and low-cost process to produce copies of drawings, referred to as blueprints.

I discovered these beautiful papers while wandering around on Instagram,
I had never seen or heard of this process before...
I was intrigued and wanted to know more.

That's when I discovered Krista McCurdy and her wonderful
cyanotypes on Instagram.  They are so beautiful and she has such a good eye
for taking elements of nature to work into her prints.

I had to have some to play with!
So I ordered a pack and then another from Krista's Etsy shop...

Here is a sampling of the art pieces I've used them in...so far.
These papers work great in collage, mixed media and
I just added a few into an abstract painting I'm working on.

I don't use alot...just a touch often times is exactly what my piece
needs to add the essence of organic nature, and Krista's color range works
so well with most of the palettes I play with.

If, like me, you're interested to know more about cyanotypes, and how they're made...
take a look at Krista in action making her papers.
I love her process...
not to mention her cool body art that works so well with her cyanotypes!

Below are some of the gorgeous papers Krista has made
and are for sale in a few places...

You can also make cyanotypes on fabric,
check out how here on

A closer look see at the cyanotypes I used in three of my latest collage pieces,
again it was just the touch of cyan I needed.

These pieces can be found in my Etsy shop

Hoping your interest is piqued too with this cool art technique
and that you do one of three things...

1.  give it a go and try the cyanotypes process yourself
2.  Visit Krista's shop for handmade papers
3.  Visit my shop for art that includes cyanotypes

Most of all...

ENJOY

Hi Denise! I love Kristas papers as well, I usually use a piece or possibly 2 in my art. You don’t need much, but it adds so much. I am thinking of trying it myself, wish me luck!
