Art Series

Working in a series can really free you up...
and help you to not focus and over think one painting as you're working.

On these three pieces I chose to add the same elements into each piece...paper, a house, fabric, polka dots and a stencil relief.  All this on a black background and using a few of my favorite colors,
light ultra marine and sap green.

My favorite part was adding in the stencil relief...each one a different pattern.  I used regular stencil patterns that I have on hand and Golden heavy gel medium.  When it dries and you rub or brush paint over it, some really great textures appear.

Once all my colors were on, I decided to quiet them down with a creamy, ivory color...to push some of the details back a bit and calm the finished colors down.

While calming everything else down, the cream really brought the stencil relief out.  I didn't have time to focus on one piece, as I worked in a bit of an assembly line and was more focused on adding the same elements and colors to each piece.

After that was all done, I went in with my Stabillo black aqua pencil and an ultra fine tip paint applicator with black paint and added more detail lines...I love using that paint applicator!

I really enjoyed this process and how these paintings turned out...
and that I didn't have time to overthink them.
The three pieces are actually 16"x20" and I think I'll enter them into the upcoming show...

I also think working in a series would be a great lesson for the upcoming Mixed Media Monday
class starting back up on March 25th.  Find out more about that at...

If you don't already do it...I hope you'll give working in a series a shot...
it's kinda freeing actually.
