The Love Letter

I keep saying Pink is not one of my go to colors...yet I keep using it!

If you were able to see last weeks blog post on Laying Down Neutrals...
(which you may have missed since my website service has a glitch going on)
then you know this piece started out from one of the two neutral  paper layouts below.

If you did miss it, I think you can link it here, provided the glitch is unglitched!

This piece got started by adding paint and more papers over the neutrals,
that's when the pink wallpaper flowers started to show up.
I was really liking them, so soft and pretty...but still needed something.

It was later that evening, when I was closing up my studio and headed off to bed, taking one more look as I passed by my easel.  Out of nowhere, the inspiration out of thin air to add a figure, specifically with a blue jean jacket...a classic, must have wardrobe item.  I think it really helped balance out all that pink.

It reminds me of when I was a kid and my Mom would make me wear a cute, girly little sunsuit.  I did not like this look at all, even as a little kid...so I would grab my brothers leather bomber jacket...put it on over the cute sunsuit and ride my bike like hell, as fast as I could.  My bikes name was the "Chrome Coffin"...I thnk I let my brothers name it for me!

I dug around online and found what I was looking for, added her in and painted her to make her mine (sourced Unsplash royalty free photos, photo credit Michael Afanso), and the pink flowers in the center were a quick finish to balance everything out...it felt like a love letter.

This was supposed to be a demo for my Mixed Media class,
though I had to move on it when the inspiration hit...
I'm sure class will understand!

I have two more to work on with them and think I better
hold off until class next week.
I'm especially excited to work on the second one
with the door plate added in.

Do you act on your creative nudgings?

  1. Yes, I do and it’s paying off by making better work. If I can’t do it right then, I make a post it note and stick it on or next to the piece I’m working on so I can get to it the next time I’m in my studio! Love these! ❤️

  2. That's exactly how my latest collage came together... an inspirational idea triggered as I was passing the table. Of course we know that inspiration comes after lots of looking, thinking, and percolating. Zing!

    1. Thanks Carole...pink is showing up everywhere now in my work. Funny how we go through color phases and move on once we've exhausted the exploration!

  5. My mom always thought 'pink' was my color. Not a celebration gift went by (no doubt) without an unwitting grimace from me - as I would open that 'pinkish' thing she'd be looking for me to don while out in public. You probably overly resonated, like me, with 'the bunny-suit' episode of Christmas Story :0} Wonder if my mom was trying to correct my love of 'blue' and 'green'- in fear of my artistic chutzpah. ;0]

    1. Oh yay...the bunny outfit and the snow suit...we were big into snow suits Karen! And we are multitaskers to the core...I'm trying to correct or ease up on that!
