Mixed Media Stencil Relief

A little relief please...with stencils.

I like adding texture to my art, and one way I love is creating a relief with stencils.

You can use many things other than just stencils for texture...

like the webbing below I used to create a pattern.  This webbing was from a bag of potatoes that I laid down, used gel medium over it, and then removed the webbing leaving behind a cool pattern relief.

Open up to the possibilities!

Here's a quick little video tutorial on using stencils to create a relief.

I just entered this piece into an international show.

The squares were cut out from a box of chocolates

and used as a grid patterned stencil...

I like this one so much I've used it in several of my paintings.

We'll be spending time in my upcoming class, Mixed Media Monday,

making, using and adding texture with stencils.

If you want to join the class, the information will be up soon on their website.

It's a six week class on Monday's and starts on February 4, 2019.

Altered Book Workshop

Creative expression... by the book.

I recently had the pleasure of participating in another art workshop at the California Center For Creative Renewal. (You may remember the collage workshop I did there back in January.)

This one was about altered books: using an entire book as the foundation for a series of page-turning collages.

Collage Credit

My daily practice of making small collages has paid off! I've been commissioned to make a large abstract collage piece for a client.

Sliding Doors

Faux finish + abstract painting

= a door like no other!

For this painting commission, I was asked to paint an abstract scene onto the sliding barn door to my client's home office.
