Discovering a new fruit...then painting it.
A neighbor of ours brought us a basket full of fruit that we have never seen before.
Not sure what it was, or if we were feeling adventurous enough to try it...
I took it to art class to paint...what else?
A few of my fellow students knew what it was...
a feihoa, or more commonly know as pineapple guava.
They are delicious!
Before they were eaten up, I took a few reference photos
and sketched them onto water color paper that I had already
built up with a few layers of collage papers.
I used oil pastels to color in the feijoa
and then more layers of paint, stencils and handwriting.
The final detail of a simple broken line to frame the fruit
and I call this piece done, ready to frame and enter into an upcoming show.
As you can see...I enjoy adding reality into my more abstract paintings.
I'll be teaching a master class in that very subject coming up next year at Art On 30th...
I'll keep you posted!
ENJOY
Oh, yeah, bom dia, feijoa!! Love it and that you share your process. (-:
ReplyDeleteThey are quite delicious Carole...also delicious to paint and explore a little bit with oil pastels. I'm kinda liking the pastels.
DeleteLove the fruit and your painting!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Carol. I did enjoy experimenting with oil pastels and then layering on papers and paint. I've already started another one with pomegranates!
