Meet Payne's Gray
After & Before
I've been wanting to step away from such a bright & pastel color palette...just a little more colorful than where I want to be with my art. I've been experimenting with a few options and came upon one that I am loving...and it started with Payne's Gray. It adds such a beautiful, rich, sophistication...it's my new go to color.
Here are a few examples of slight, and not so slight, changes in pieces I finished over the past year...recently revisiting them and switching them up a bit by adding in Payne's Gray.
Above: I ghosted out the original pastel flowers and let them hang out in the background...then added in a few acrylic skins I made, using them as my new flowers and let them move to the front...changing up shapes and sizes. I still may have more to add to this, for now I'm letting it rest.
This piece I LOVED...until I met Payne's Gray!
I toned down the pastel background, added in more color to the items on the table, ghosted over a few of the oranges and glazed over the bright green tablecloth...
all with Payne's Gray.
all with Payne's Gray.
I like this piece is much better now and more saleable.
The tulips (36X20) didn't need alot...just a little darkness in the mid range, depth to the tulips...along with a few other minor changes...I'm much happier with this now.
These two piece are not do overs...they started out with my new favorite color.
Might seem like a small change...but a significant one to me that is moving me
in the direction of where I want my art to be. Its fun to share the progress, along with a great color tip to anyone who's exploring colors...be sure to give this one a go!
